Consumers

Finding and choosing a builder can be daunting, especially if this is your first time undertaking a building project. It is an unfortunate truth that so called “cow boy builders” or “rogue traders” continue to operate in the UK. We feel with the right advice and guidance your building project can go as smoothly as you hope it will.

To the left of this text you will find a list of topics with handy tips and advice for consumers to consider when finding and choosing a builder. As well as the advice found on this website there are many other organisations who can provide you with advice and even assistance if something does go wrong.

National Builders Association

If you have used one of our builders for your job then we offer a range of support and benefits to help your job go as trouble free as possible.

If you ever need any advice, guidance or assistance throughout the project we are always here to help. In the unlikely event that something does go wrong when using one of our members you gain full access to our mediation services where we can mediate a successful outcome for both parties.

Consumer Direct

Consumer Direct is an online and telephone based consumer advice service. Supported by the Office of Fair Trading they can provide advice and guidance to consumers that may be experiencing problems or disagreements with suppliers of good and services.

If you have been a victim of poor workmanship or a dishonest trader Consumer Direct is a good organisation to contact.

Office of Fair Trading (OFT)

An organisation dedicated to making sure the markets are competitive while remaining fair and honest.

Department of Trade & Industry (DTI)

The DTI works to help business in the UK grow and succeed.
